In a meeting on 5th October 2020 with H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Ambassador Stephan Auer handed over his appointment letter as Germany’s Permanent Representative with observer status to the African Union.

In a meeting on 5th October 2020 with H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Ambassador Stephan Auer handed over his appointment letter as Germany’s Permanent Representative with observer status to the African Union. “The German Government is looking forward to deepening our strong cooperation with the African Union and its organs, bilaterally as well as through and jointly with the EU.”, confirmed Ambassador Auer.

As Germany is one oft he biggest supporters on regional economic integration as well as the African Continental Free Trade Area, Ambassador Auer announced an additional 10 million Euros to New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD)-Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility  – African Union Development Agency -NEPAD’s facility to prepare bankable cross-border infrastructure projects – as a backbone and prerequisite for increased trade and economic development on the African continent.
