The German Government will be providing the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT-Accelerator) with an additional 1.5 billion euro of funding in 2021. Most of this sum will go to the vaccine platform COVAX, which is procuring and financing vaccines for developing countries.
With the Hilde Domin Programme, the Federal Foreign Office and the German Academic Exchange Service are founding a new scholarship programme for students and doctoral candidates who are denied the opportunity to study or complete a doctoral programme in their countries of origin.
On 13 April, Germany held its first foreign and security policy consultations with Japan, a partner with shared values. The talks took place in 2+2 format, with each country being represented by its Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defence.
The situation in Yemen is dramatic, with no sign of a solution to the conflict even after six years. Germany is holding talks in Berlin with its international partners on how to provide concrete support to the UN Special Envoy for Yemen’s efforts to achieve peace.
